Kalani High School is the best public high school in Hawaii, according to U.S. News and World Report.
The publication looked at factors like college readiness, math and reading proficiency and student-to-teacher ratios. It cited Kalani’s Advanced Placement coursework and exams with a participation rate of 52 percent.
“The rankings are indicative of the high standards we’ve set for our high school students across the state,” said Schools Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi. “Our educators deserve to be commended for their exceptional efforts in preparing our students for post-secondary success in college, careers or the community.”
The East Oahu school came in No. 1,009 in the report’s 2014 national rankings.
Other top Hawaii schools include McKinley High and King Kekaulike High on Maui.
