Fence construction begins at Cromwells

A fence is slowly going up at a popular swimming hole in Diamond Head intended to keep visitors safe.

Locals and tourists have been jumping off a rock wall at Cromwells which is located behind the Doris Duke Shangri La mansion.

The water is quite shallow causing people to get hurt even leaving two people paralyzed.

“We understand people’s love of the area. It’s something we share. We want people to come down and enjoy themselves. We just don’t want them engaging in the behaviors where they’re putting themselves in extremely high risk for devastating injuries,” Shangri La Executive Director Deborah Pope said.

Construction on the fence is expected to take about four weeks, and will not affect public access to the shoreline.
