Honolulu firefighters are monitoring a brush fire in Waianae Thursday.
It broke out just before 1 p.m. near Puhawai Rd. and Puuhulu Rd.
The fire burned in an isolated area, however area residents were worried when wind initially appeared to blow flames toward their homes. It was declared contained at 2:31 p.m., officials say.
The cause remains under investigation.
A recent rash of brush fires is prompting the Honolulu Fire Dept. to remind the public about brush fire season. The dry summer weather creates perfect kindling for brush fires.
Authorities urge homeowners to maintain their property and clear away any dry trees, plants or anything that can catch fire, from at least 30 feet away from their home.
Keep all landscaping maintained and trimmed and clear out all gutters.
And finally, if you see see any suspicious activity, call police.
