Honolulu firefighters responded to a brush fire in Kapolei early Thursday morning.
It broke out just before 5 a.m. on Kapolei Pky. near the Kapolei fire station. Flames could be seen for miles along the Ewa plain, including as far away as the H-1 Freeway.
“We live one street over and it was kind of bright,” said resident Cesar Blue. “So we were like wow, it looked real close, but now looking at it, it’s not too bad.”
“The first arriving companies did a great job controlling the fire and there were some big truck tires that were producing the black smoke,” said HFD Battalion Chief Ken Lee.
Officials say the fire was under control within an hour and no homes were threatened.
