Facebook buys fitness app maker ProtoGeo

Facebook is buying an app to help customers get fit.

The social networking giant won’t say how much it paid to buy ProtoGeo, the Norwegian company that created the fitness app Moves, which allows smart phone users to track how many steps you’ve walked and how many minutes you’ve cycled or run.

Fitness and health monitoring are fast growing areas of the tech market.

So far, the fitness app Moves has been downloaded more than four million times.
