Annual Fireknife championships are underway at PCC

The World Fireknife Championships are underway at the Polynesian Cultural Center.

On Wednesday night, 24 competitors competed in the elite senior division.

Nine advanced to Thursday night’s semifinals.

Among the competitors, three men are from Hawaii and one competitior from Fukushima, Japan.

The next generation of Fireknife dancers took the stage in two junior divisions with the following results on Thursday.

Results: 6-11 Age-Group Division
1ST Place:    Dayton Solitamalii Daong, 11, Waipahu, HI
2ND Place:    Vincent Galeai, 11, Laie, HI
3RD Place:    Mose Lilo, 6, Ewa Beach, HI

Results: 12-17 Age-Group Division
1ST Place:    Hale Motuapuaka, 14, Aiea, HI
2ND Place:    Wallen Teo, 17, Waimanalo, HI
3RD Place:    Hunter Nery, 13, Waialua, HI

On Friday, the three finalists for the title are Malo Matau of Laie, HI, Falaniko Penesa of Samoa, and Via Tiumalu, Orlando. They will perform during the intermission of Ha.

The competition continues through Saturday.
