Boston’s “USE YAH BLINKAH” traffic safety campaign is a hit with drivers

BOSTON (WCVB/CNN) — Transportation officials in Boston have come up with creative way to improve traffic safety by tapping into the city’s distinctive way of talking.

You’ve seen it a thousand times, the driver who refuses to let you know where they’re headed: in other words they don’t: “use the blinkah.”

The brainchild of MassDOT, the state posted the signs Friday and got a double hit, people liked the language and started tweeting the picture.

“By using the spelling, we certainly got people’s attention. So we’re hoping this is a way to refresh these messages,” Frank DePaola, MassDOT said.

Last year nearly 5-thousand drivers got tickets in Massachusetts for failure to signal.
