TAMPA, FL. (WFTS/CNN) — An 8-year-old Florida girl got an up-close lesson in the birds and the bees.
The child helped deliver her baby brother after her mom went into labor but couldn’t make it to the hospital.
All births are memorable, but Joseph James Snyder’s birth became a family affair.
“I was in the bathroom and my water broke and I yelled for her… Jazmine grab the cordless phone. Dial 911,” Krystle Garcia recalls.
Eight-year-old Jazmine McEnaney called at 7:02 a.m.
“My mom is pregnant and her water just broke,” Jazmine said.
“I was freaking out. I am like, I am home with my eight-year-old daughter, you know. Even if I called somebody they are not going to come quick enough. It was… it happened so fast,” Garcia said.
Two weeks early, all five pounds 10 ounces of little Joseph couldn’t wait.
“They told me to get lots of towels and blankets,” Jazmine said.
Just 13 minutes after that 911 call by Jazmine, and before the paramedics could arrive, Joseph made his appearance.
Operator: Is your mom pushing or straining yet?
Jazmine: Um. Mommy are you pushing or straining?
Garcia: Yes! Yes!
“It was like, kind of hard,” Jazmine said.
Operator: tell her not to drop him.
Garcia: Come here. hold the baby’s head please.
“She definitely stayed calm when she needed to, especially, I was hysterical,” Garcia said.
Big sister helped her little brother by bringing him into the world, and she did a very good job.
