Sources have confirmed to KHON2 sports that former University of Hawai’i baseball stars Kolten Wong and Greg Garcia will be flipping spots on the St. Louis Cardinals big league roster for the second time in two weeks.
This morning, Wong, a former All-American with the Rainbows from 2009-2011, was recalled from AAA Memphis, where he was hitting a robust .344 with 2 home runs in just 64 at-bats. The 2011 1st round pick of the Cardinals had started the season as the primary 2nd baseman in St. Louis, before being optioned to Memphis on April 27th.
That same day, Wong’s former All-WAC teammate Greg Garcia, was promoted from the Redbirds to the Cardinals, where he hit .200 in 10 at-bats over 7 games. Garcia was a joyful hero after last night’s walk-off hit by pitch
in the Cardinal’s 4-3 extra innings win over the Cubs.
Despite Garcia playing relatively well in limited playing time, Wong’s call-up was becoming imminent with his offensive fireworks in Memphis, including a 4-5 night with a home run last night against Round Rock.
