Honolulu police have opened an attempted murder investigation after an elderly woman was hit by a car in Waikiki. It happened at 11:40 a.m. at Diamond Head Apartments on Kalakaua Ave.
Firefighters responded to a medical call and found the woman, who is in her 70s, lying on the floor of the underground parking garage with cuts, bruises and a head injury. She was hospitalized in serious condition, emergency officials said.
A 40-year-old man, reportedly a maintenance worker, witnessed the confrontation between the victim and the driver, a woman in her 30s. He told firefighters that the older woman lives in the building and, when she got out of her car, the suspect drove into her and knocked her to the floor.
The man said he then grabbed a crowbar and smashed the back of the suspect’s car to keep her from driving into the victim yet again. The suspect jumped out and ran away, he said.
The car in question, a Volkswagen sedan, remains in the garage.
Police arrested 30-year-old Jill Anjuli Hansen shortly after 7 p.m. She has not yet been charged.
