Waiakea’s Medeiros draws scouts, Hawaii players benefit

HONOLULU-Hawaii’s top high school baseball prospect Kodi Medeiros brings in quite a crowd in the HHSAA baseball state tournament this week. The Big Island lefty drew the attention of major league scouts, cross checkers, and more.

Todd Gold, scouting director of Perfect Game, flew down to the islands this weekend to get a look at Medeiros. Perfect Game is the world’s largest baseball scouting service and provides scouting for colleges and draft prospects.

Although Gold came to scout the Waiakea pitcher, many more players will get exposure and looks from scouts. A benefit that Gold says is huge for Hawaii’s athletes.

“It gives them an opportunity to get some extra looks that they might not have had,” Gold said. “There is a lot of talent in Hawaii, but one of the biggest obstacles for these kids is getting that exposure.”

Perfect Game projects the Pepperdine commit to be drafted within the first round.
