Gov. Neil Abercrombie filed nomination papers Thursday to officially enter the race for governor.
He walked from the State Capitol to the State Office Tower accompanied by his wife, Dr. Nancie Caraway, their dog, Kanoa, and dozens of supporters.
Abercombie said this re-election bid will be his final campaign after more than 40 years in public service.
“I will do my level best with everything I have within me to live up to the vote of confidence that I’ve had to this point in my political career,” he said.
Gov. Abercrombie will face fellow Democrat, state Sen. David Ige, in the primary election on August 9. Ige has yet to file for election.
