A Washington state man was in distress Saturday while snorkeling at Honolua Bay in Napili, and later died.
Around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, 58-year-old Alan Southard of Puyallup, Washington, was having trouble while in the water.
He was pulled to shore by bystanders who began cardio pulmonary resuscitation.
First responders arrived on the scene and Southard was transported in critical condition to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
Southard later died at the hospital. Cause of death is unknown pending autopsy results.
