GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – The Green Bay Packers have signed defensive end Khyri Thornton, their third-round draft pick, and a trio of undrafted free agents in safety Charles Clay, tight end Colt Lyerla and defensive end Luther Robinson.
Clay played in 12 games with six starts and 69 tackles as a senior at Hawaii last season. He spent his first two seasons at SMU.
2013 (Senior): Appeared in all 12 games and made six starts at safety…finished fourth on the team with 69 total tackles, including 5.5 for loss…also recorded one sack, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and four pass breakups…career-high 14 tackles and 2.0 tackles-for-loss at Utah State (Nov. 2)…had 11 tackles at Oregon State (Sept. 7)…posted a forced fumble and fumble recovery against Colorado State (Oct. 26)…also had nine tackles and a sack against the Rams…had seven tackles and two pass breakups at Wyoming (Nov. 23)…selected as the team’s special teams player of the year.
2012 (Junior): Appeared in all 12 games as a defensive back and made one start…tallied 29 total tackles, one fumble recovery and four pass breakups…season-high six tackles against New Mexico (Oct. 13)…amassed three tackles and three pass breakups against UNLV (Nov. 24)…had five tackles at Colorado State (Oct. 27).
2011 (Sophomore): Appeared in all 13 games, primarily on special teams and as a backup wide receiver…recorded 15 tackles and forced three fumbles…tied for fifth in the WAC and 64th nationally in forced fumbles…also caught two passes for nine yards as a wide receiver…had two tackles and two forced fumbles against New Mexico State (Oct. 22)…also had a forced fumble at Louisiana Tech (Oct. 1).
Prior To UH: Attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, for two years…appeared in 12 games as a freshman in 2010, primarily on special teams…registered three tackles…redshirted in 2009.
Prep: A 2009 graduate of Hilo High School in Hawai‘i…a multi-sport athlete…earned two varsity letters in football…earned all-league honors on both sides of the ball…a two-time all-league pick at wide receiver, including first-team honors as a junior…also a second-team all-league pick at defensive back as a junior…lettered two years in track…participated in the 100-, 200- and 4×100-meter events…qualified for the state finals in 100- and 200-meters in back-to-back years…holds the school record in the 200-meters… graduated cum laude.
