Queen’s Medical Center West Oahu officially opens

Queen's Medical Center - West Oahu

The new Queen’s Medical Center West Oahu opened its doors Tuesday morning.

The facility used to be Hawaii Medical Center West until it closed in 2011.

Queen’s bought the facility from St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii and spent millions of dollars on improvements and upgrades.

Emergency Medical Services’ Ewa Beach ambulance unit treated and transported the hospital’s first patient just after 8 a.m., officials said.

Crews then proceeded to transport 10 more patients to the hospital’s new emergency room in the first three hours of operation, according to an Emergency Medical Services spokesperson.
