A brand-new, eye-catching mural is nearing completion in Kakaako.

The project started on Monday and is timed in conjunction with the new Versace store slated for soft opening Thursday at Ala Moana Center.

The Versace-inspired mural of Medusa on the side of the old Comp USA building, on Ala Moana Blvd. and Keawe St., is being painted by world-renowned street artist and illustrator Tristan Eaton from Los Angeles.

“I am very impressed by it,” said long-time Kakaako resident Shawn “Doc” Boyd. “I think its really good for Kakaako. You already see people pulling in to take a look.”

The entire piece is being painted using 200 spray paint cans and is slated to be finished by Saturday.

The building will eventually be torn down by the end of the year to make way for a new residential development.
