28-year-old Hilo Varaha Mims has been charged in connection with the stabbing of three individuals in two separate locations in Hilo on Friday.
According to Hawaii Island Police officials, officers responded to a bar on Keawe Street just after midnight.
Police say they found a 28-year-old Pahoa man and a 27-year-old Hilo woman with stab wounds. A man unknown to them had reportedly stabbed them outside the bar, damaged a car and fled on foot toward the Wainaku area.
Minutes after police arrived at the scene, they received additional calls reporting a stabbing at a residence on the 300 block of Ohai Street in the Wainaku area. Responding officers found a 49-year-old man with multiple stab wounds.
“For the first female and male victim, it appears to be a random assault. We’re still investigating the motive behind that particular assault. The second stabbing victim on Ohai St., there is an association between the suspect and the victim,” said Lt. Gregory Esteban with Hawaii Island Police Dept.
All three victims were taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. The Pahoa man was listed in critical condition. The Hilo man was listed in stable condition. The woman was treated for her injuries and released.
