A 45-foot sailboat that ran aground off Old Kona Airport late Sunday night is finally gone.

Crews with the state Dept. of Land and Natural Resources removed Seaquel from the reef approximately 100 ft. offshore Thursday.

The vessel will be disposed of Friday, officials said.

The California-based boat came from Mexico and made its first port of call at Hilo, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Two people, a man and woman, were on board when Seaquel ran aground. They jumped in the water and swam to shore, authorities said.

The state Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation will attempt to collect the removal costs from the owner at a later time. Officials said the owner did not have insurance and could not afford to pay for salvage.

The owner will not be cited, according to the state.
