VACAVILLE, CA (KCRA) – A 22-year-old man is trying something unique to find his mom a new kidney.
He’s panhandling, asking for a kidney donation.
Geoffrey Dinoso does not want pity, and the 22-year-old is not asking for money either.
“To be honest I seen a similar story online and a man did the same thing for his wife and he got the exposure out there and the news covered him and he got what he wanted,” Geoffrey said.
Geoffrey wants someone to donate a kidney to his mother who was diagnosed with end stage renal disease two years ago.
“Then all of a sudden I got very sick. And then when I went to the ER they did a lot of tests and the tests came out that I got kidney failure already,” Maria Dinoso said.
So her son thought the kindness of people, amplified by the power of social media, would allow them to spread three simple words plastered on his sandwich board.
MOM NEEDS KIDNEY
“She means the world to me. She’s my mom. She’s been there for me all my life. So you know, it’s the least I could do,” Geoffrey said.
And strangers have come up, asking what they could do.
Geoffrey: Hi, how are you doing?
Woman: You need money?
Geoffrey: Oh no, I’m not taking any money. Just trying to get the word out there to the right person. I appreciate it though. I really do.
A gesture of appreciation for his mother who had no idea he would do this.
Reporter: Your awesome son is out with a sign. What do you think about that?
Mother: I was very surprised. I was like crying. I didn’t know he would do that for me.
He hopes someone, somewhere, might be touched enough to donate a kidney.
“Without it, my mom’s going to be on dialysis — and the longer you’re on dialysis, the more harm it does to your body, so that’s why I’m trying to get this done as quick as possible,” Geoffrey said.
