The stage was set. ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball on national television for Hilo native Kolten Wong.
Kolten’s always been known to get up on the big stage, and tonight he didn’t disappoint. The Cardinal second baseman extended his hitting streak to seven games tonight, going 2-4 in the Cards’ 4-0 win tonight over the Reds in Cincinnati.
After an infield hit in the top of the first inning, Wong’s RBI single in the third broke a scoreless tie. The very next pitch, the former University of Hawai’i All-American stole second base, his second larceny of the game. His seven swiped bags are tops amongst the Cardinals.
Since being called back up to the bigs on May 14th, Wong is 10 for 27, raising his season batting average to .265.
