Fourth of July fireworks will light up the sky at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam this year.
After the fireworks show was cancelled last year due to budget constraints, Pizza Hut decided to step in.
“When we first heard that news, we were like damn, anything we can do to make sure that doesn’t happen,” said company spokesperson Doug Terfehr. “We know its been around a long time and we have locations in Hawaii, so we thought there has got to be something we can do to help them.”
Due to time constraints, Terfehr said the company could not save the show last year. This week, however, Pizza Hut worked out an agreement with the base to fund this year’s show.
“We just want to thank them for all the service that they do and just be able to help anyone have a memorable Fourth of July,” Terfehr said. “We’re happy to play a small role and share in the celebration with them.”
Pizza Hut will also be giving out free samples of barbecue pizza during the event.
The company would not disclose how much money was donated.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the annual Independence Day at Maunalua Bay Festival in Hawaii Kai.
Organizers announced the event’s cancellation earlier this month due to lack of funds.
