Board of Water Supply crews have closed all but one lane in both directions on Waialae Ave. to bury water lines deeper into the ground.
The work is being done ahead of a repaving project by the City and County of Honolulu.
The project started in July 2012 and was supposed to have wrapped up by December of last year, but crews encountered several delays due to unforeseen problems, like soft spots that required emergency repair back in February.
The closures are in effect between 8th and 9th avenues.
Customers in the immediate area may experience temporary water service loss when crews switch over to the new service lines, but will be notified ahead of the planned water outage, officials said.
Work is expected through 4:30 p.m. Thursday and will likely continue Friday.
