It’s official. Shan Tsutsui is running to keep his seat as lieutenant governor.
The long-time Maui resident filed his nomination papers Thursday afternoon at the Office of Elections in downtown Honolulu.
Tsutsui was appointed to the position in 2012, after former Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz moved on to fill the late Daniel Inouye’s U.S. Senate seat.
“With my family by my side and a lot of friends and supporters, I’m really excited about the opportunity to get out a message and let people know about the good things that are coming,” he said.
Tsutsui will be up against state Sen. Clayton Hee in the Democratic primary.
