Longtime restaurateur Chai Chaowasaree is turning to the public to help with a major makeover of his popular Waikiki eatery.

On Friday, he posted on his Facebook page that “after 25 years in Waikiki, I need a change to my original restaurant Singha Thai. … I just can not come up with the name that I like, so please help submit the name for my new restaurant.”

Chaowasaree said a “Hawaiian name would be nice,” with the reconceptualized restaurant offering both casual dining and take-out, “serving local favorites like Beef Stew, Loco Moco, Truffle Saimin, Shave Ice, etc.”

This would be the second time the well-known chef has made a change in his restaurant business. His Chai’s Island Bistro — 14 years in its original Aloha Tower Marketplace home base — was newly dubbed Chef Chai when it relocated last year to the ground floor of the Pacifica condominium on Kapiolani Blvd.
