Upcoming lane closures due to rail transit project

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation is advising motorists that work along the 20-mile rail route from East Kapolei to Ala Moana Center will require lane closures during non-peak traffic hours.

Here’s what’s coming up:

DOWNTOWN/KAKAAKO

Overnight lane closures will take place Downtown at the following locations between 8:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday, June 1, and Thursday, June 5, for soil testing:

Left lanes of Nimitz Hwy., both directions, between Sumner St. and Nuuanu Ave.

Left westbound lane of Nimitz Hwy. between Punchbowl St. and Bishop St.

Overnight lane closures will take place on Halekauwila St. in both the eastbound and westbound directions between Richards St. and South St. between 8:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday, June 1, and Thursday, June 5, for soil testing.

Overnight lane closures will take place on Kona St. in either the eastbound or westbound directions between Piikoi St. and Keeaumoku St. between 10 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Sunday, June 1, and Thursday, June 5, for soil testing.

Right lanes of Halekauwila St. in both the eastbound and westbound directions between Punchbowl St. and Cooke St. will be closed between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, and Friday, June 6.

H-1 FREEWAY WAIAWA INTERCHANGE

The two left southbound lanes of the H-2 Freeway near the Waiawa Interchange (H-1/H-2 merge) will be closed overnight between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. from Sunday, June 1 to Thursday, June 5 for column pre-construction work.

EWA

Farrington Hwy. near the Fort Weaver Road overpass and the southbound Fort Weaver Road loop exit leading to Farrington Hwy. in Waipahu (Exit 5) will be closed overnight between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, through Thursday, June 5. Drivers who normally use the Exit 5 Waipahu exit can make a U-turn at the intersection of Fort Weaver Road and Laulaunui St.

Left turns from Farrington Hwy. in Ewa onto Fort Weaver Road heading northbound will be restricted 24/7 through July for column construction. Eastbound drivers using Farrington Hwy. are asked to make a detour up Leoku St. to access Fort Weaver Road through either Leolua or Waipahu streets.

WAIPAHU

The following will be closed between between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday, June 2, to Friday, June 6, for utility relocation work:

One outside lane of Farrington Hwy. in both directions near Aniani Place fronting Waipahu Intermediate School

Westbound lanes and part of the intersection of Farrington Hwy. near Awalau St.

Westbound lanes of Farrington Hwy. near Paiwa St.

PEARL CITY

Two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane along Kamehameha Hwy. will be closed between Kuala St. and Kuleana Road between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Monday, June 2, to Friday, June 6, for utility relocation and excavation work.

Left turns at the Acacia Road intersection will be restricted between 10 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

Kamehameha Hwy. eastbound drivers wishing to make left turns at the Waimano Home Road intersection will be detoured to Puu Momi St. after 8 p.m.

One open westbound lane will be diverted to the eastbound side of the highway between Puu Poni St. and Kuleana Road from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

AIEA/ALOHA STADIUM

Alternating lane closure will take place along the inside and outside lanes of Kamehameha Hwy. between the Moanalua Fwy. on-ramp and Salt Lake Blvd. from Monday, June 2, to Friday, June 6, between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and between 7:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times.

KALIHI

Intermittent lane closures will take place at the following locations between 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, to Friday, June 6, for soil testing:

Right lane of Kamehameha Hwy. in the eastbound direction between Middle St. and Laumaka St.

Left lanes of Kamehameha Hwy. in both the eastbound and westbound direction between Laumaka St. and Kalihi St.

Shoulder lane closures will take place at the following locations between 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 2, to Friday, June 6, for soil testing:

Northbound right shoulder of Kohou St. approaching Dillingham Blvd.

Northbound left shoulder of Kokea St. approaching Dillingham Blvd.
