Maui firefighters and rescue personnel on Sunday helped save the driver and his passenger of a car that went off the side of Hana Hwy. at the 42.5 mile marker, a half-mile west of Oheo Gulch.
The car fell approximately 80 feet to the bottom of a ravine, landing upside down.
The two occupants, an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old female, were able to make their way out of the vehicle. Air-1 with rescue personnel arrived on the scene and airlifted the victims, one at a time, to a secured landing zone.
Both victims were transported by ambulance to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition. They both suffered head and neck injuries.
