The new Downtown Honolulu Walmart is opening Wednesday, July 9, at 8 a.m., following a traditional Hawaiian blessing and Maile lei untying.
Although the 80,000-square-foot location is smaller than other Walmarts, “everything you would get at any other location here in the islands, you’ll be able to find in our store as well,” said store manager Ray Griego, including a bank and pharmacy.
Griego says shoppers will encounter a different layout as well.
“The unique thing about this facility is it’s upstairs and downstairs,” he said. “On your first floor you get all your consumables — food, chemicals, paper goods, pets — and then upstairs is pretty much home products and the apparel department as well.”
About 150 associates are employed at the new store.
The downtown store is located at 1032 Fort St. Mall.
The store features quality, value-priced general merchandise, including electronics and outdoor sporting equipment.
The store’s pharmacy offers a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions. Honolulu residents can easily transfer prescriptions and order refills on the go with the Walmart mobile app for iPhone and Android.
The new store will be open from 6 a.m to 10 p.m. daily.
Shoppers can park in the adjacent 470-stall structure off Bethel St.
