Firefighters battled a three-alarm building fire in Ewa Beach Friday.

The call came in at 1:24 p.m. from Kulana Village Townhouse on Kuilioloa Pl. The fire started in Unit 3 of Building U and initial reports indicated at least one unit was fully involved when crews arrived.

The fire was called under control at 2:11 p.m.

Six units were affected and deemed “unlivable,” according to Honolulu Fire Dept. officials. All six families were displaced and the American Red Cross is responding.

Fort Weaver Rd. between Kilaha St. and Pohakupuna Rd. was closed for several hours as crews extinguished the fire and cleared the scene.

According to Emergency Medical Services, a 26-year-old man apparently injured his arm while breaking through a window.

A dog was also severely burned. The Hawaiian Humane Society is assisting.

The fire resulted in $750,000 in damage. Its cause remains undetermined.
