(CNN) — You may have noticed higher milk prices at the store recently.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says the national average for a gallon of fortified whole milk cost $3.69 in last month.

That’s a 7.5 percent increase from a year ago, the highest price in about two and a half years.

Analysts blame China and other Southeast Asian and Latin American countries for the high demand and higher prices.

Southeast Asia bought 39 percent more American milk through April than a year ago. Chinese imports alone were up 91 percent, according to the US Dairy Export Council.
