NORFOLK, Neb. (CNN) — At least one person has died and 16 more are in critical condition after a pair of tornadoes swept through Nebraska Monday.
That’s according to a spokeswoman at a medical facility in Norfolk.
At least six others were treated for less-serious injuries.
The spokeswoman says they’re expecting “many more” patients hurt in the storm.
The City of Pilger was shut down to everyone but emergency personnel in the face of the storms.
The governor’s office says damage has been reported in Pilger and at least three other towns.
According to The Associated Press, the National Weather Service says the tornadoes were about a mile apart.
A meteorologist in Sioux Falls reports widespread wind and flood damage.
