Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen now officially owns the recipes that made its food so popular.
The company paid $43 million to the family of the fried chicken chain’s late founder Al Copeland.
Copeland sold his New Orleans-based operation back in 2001, but retained the recipes that he had created back in the 1970s.
After Copeland’s his death in 2008, Popeyes has been paying about $3.1 million annually to the family for the use of the recipe.
Popeyes has more than 2,200 restaurant locations around the world.
