KHON2 has confirmed a 79-year-old woman who was hospitalized with critical injuries after a pedestrian crash in Kailua Thursday has died.
Emergency Medical Services said she was hit by an SUV at around 11:45 a.m. The Honolulu Medical Examiner identified her Friday as Kailua resident Alicia Moreno.
According to police, Moreno was crossing Kailua Rd. in a marked crosswalk. One car stopped to allow her to pass, and a Toyota SUV behind it went around and hit the woman, police said.
Moreno was taken to Castle Medical Center where she later died.
The driver is a 19-year-old female. Speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash.
Kailua Rd. was closed in the east-bound direction between Uluoa St. and Ulumanu Rd. for several hours while police investigated the scene.
This is the second pedestrian death in Honolulu Thursday. Early Thursday morning, a 55-year-old man died after he was hit by a city bus in Kalihi.
