Using the Report It feature on the KHON2 website, a viewer told KHON how disgusted they were when they took a stroll near the harbor in Waikiki.
KHON took a look. Trash, tree parts and other debris clogged the water around the boats.
This isn’t always the worst it gets.
“When I’ve seen it worst it feels like you can almost step out on the water and walk across the debris,” said boater Todd Albritton.
The state says the tree debris comes from upland, and it naturally washed down with rain.
The state has traps set up to keep all this trash from flowing into the ocean.
Crews haul off the debris every week and will do so again this week.
