A new stadium at Lahainaluna High School will be named after one of the major donors.

The Hawaii State Board of Education approved a recommendation to name it after part-time Maui resident Sue D. Cooley who donated $7.5 million which is about 80 percent of the estimated $9 million cost.

It will have a new synthetic four-lane track, an artificial turf athletic field, lights and scoreboard.

The 3,000-seat stadium is expected to be finished in August.

Lahainaluna High was established in 1831, and is the oldest public high school west of the Mississippi River.
