MAKUA ROTHMAN WINS PICO ALTO-VO-1

PICO ALTO, Peru – In a historic moment overseas, Makua Rothman won the inaugural ASP Big Wave Tour’s first event Thursday morning. Claiming the Billabong Pico Alto in Peru, Rothman dominated the field of 24 en route to a score of 27.33 in the final round. Makuakai claims this title just two days after the birth of his daughter.

The 29-year-old is now ranked number one in the Big Wave Tour’s world rankings. Along with his accolades on the water, Rothman has also released his debut reggae album Sound Wave that topped the Billboard charts earlier this year. The Oahu native will next compete in South Africa and Chile on the Big Wave Tour with holding periods for both events ending on August 31.
