Honolulu police were called to a home on Metcalf St. in the Moiliili area Sunday morning.
“At about 4 a.m. this morning, the victim came over to a residence here. He went inside and he threatened some people with a dangerous instrument. Bystanders came to help and they detained him, and they called police,” said Lt. Walter Calistro of the Honolulu Police Department.
Once police got to the scene, the victim, later identified as 30-year-old Timmy Chang-Wo Jr., was unresponsive.
Police say he was given CPR and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities aren’t saying much about the victim or how he died.
“He does not live at that house. No,” Lt. Calistro said.
“Is [the victim] a friend or a family member?” KHON2 asked.
“A friend. And that’s all we can say at this time,” Lt. Calistro said.
KHON2 spoke to a man who lives just across the way. He says the early-morning commotion woke him up.
“I just heard some arguing and I heard the guy saying, ‘Stop it! Stop it!,’ said neighbor Kenneth Murata.
“Did you a take a look outside your window?” KHON2 asked.
“I took a look, but was too dark.” Murata said.
According to police, two women were also inside the home at the time of the incident. They sustained minor injuries.
Police say two men were arrested for second-degree murder. They were later released pending investigation.
