The owner of the adrift yellow kayak found Sunday was located safe ashore later that evening on Kauai.
The kayaker was never in distress.
The Coast Guard is searching Sunday for a possible missing kayaker in the Kaulakahi Channel off Kauai.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Honolulu received notification from the charter vessel “Holo Holo” that reported sighting an unmanned 15-foot yellow, two-person inflatable kayak adrift approximately seven miles seaward of Barking Sands Beach, Kauai.
The only marking is a Pacific Extreme label. A red life jacket and a black and yellow paddle towel were found aboard.
The charter vessel monitored the area and no one appeared to be in distress.
A helicopter was launched from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point to the scene to search for anyone in distress.
The Coast Guard advises the public to label all watercraft and equipment with contact information in order to quickly account for owners and prevent any unnecessary searches.
The Coast Guard is asking mariners to keep a sharp eye out for anyone possibly in distress.
