Hawai’i’s voyaging canoes have left Tahiti and are making their way to Mo’orea.
Crewmembers planted the Peace Project before leaving.
One of the goals in Hokule’a’s voyage around the world is the Propagate Peace Project. It’s to promote mindful strategies in caring for the earth.
“We invite, schools, organizations or individuals to contribute to a total of one-million trees planted worldwide in commemoration of the worldwide voyage, today we planted a wiliwili tree,” education coordinator Kala Baybayan said.
The seedling came from Kaho’olawe, so the tree now connects Hamuta Valley in Tahiti with Hawai’i.
The canoes are expected to arrive in Mo’orea Thursday morning.
