Firefighters are no longer looking for a missing Waianae teen, but community members continue to search on their own.
As many as 60 people gathered Wednesday morning and spent hours on Kamaile mountain, where Richard “Kalani” Vierra went hiking alone on Saturday and never returned.
Friends and volunteers searched different areas of the mountain and valleys.
When asked why she decided to get involved, volunteer Princess Rodrigues replied, “Because he’s all alone. He’s 15 years old. He was not prepared, just the dangers of it being alone and the mountain itself.”
Firefighters suspended their search for Vierra Tuesday at sunset, but could resume if any significant lead appears.
