(CNN) Have you might noticed your grocery bill seems to have grown a bit more expensive recently? Well, experts say the culprit may be one meal, breakfast.
It’s the most important meal of the day but it’s also getting a lot more expensive and if you are the eggs, bacon and coffee type of person, your wallet is taking the biggest hit.
According to the stats from the Bureau of Labor statistics, which shows that fresh foods on our breakfast plates have increased in price 11 percent since may of 2009.
If you look at the cost of a typical breakfast, it has gone way up due to sickness, drought and demand.
Bacon is up 65 percent, due to a disease wiping out a piglet population earlier in the year.
Experts say dairy products like eggs are up 33 percent, and margarine up 39 percent, all due to the increasing demand in Asia, and big price hikes in beef and pork.
Coffee is up 40 percent due to drought in Brazil.
The one thing on your breakfast plate that has not gone up in price is bread, which is down about 1 percent.
