Highway motorcycle collision results in one death

A 26-year-old Aiea man has died after a motorcycle crash in Windward Oahu.

The call came in at 3:10 a.m. Saturday on the Likelike Highway on-ramp to the H-3 Freeway.

According to Honolulu police, two motorcyclists were reportedly riding as part of a pack when they collided into each other, slid over the pavement and into a metal guardrail.

Nickolaus Siu was pronounced dead on arrival, while a 22-year-old Honolulu man was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition. He was later upgraded to good condition.

Police say both men were wearing helmets at the time.

Speed is a possible factor for the collision, and it’s currently unknown if drugs or alcohol was involved.

This is the 35th road fatality of 2014, compared to the same number of 35 at this time last year.
