Maui police searching for MCCC escapee

The Department of Public Safety has issued an alert than one of their inmates has escaped from the Maui Community Correctional Center.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, inmate Junior Jorju escaped from MCCC.

He was discovered missing at the 9:30 p.m. headcount.

The facility was locked down, and a search of the interior and exterior of MCCC was conducted.

Maui police was then notified of the escape.

It is not known how Jorju escaped at this time. The incident is under investigation.

Jorju is a sentenced misdemeanant. He was considered community custody, which is the lowest risk level. His sentence started on 7/7/14 and was supposed to end on 7/20/14.

He was serving 14 days for for Driving without a License and Criminal Contempt of Court.

Jorju is 40 years old, 5’4″ tall and weighs 135 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

If you see Junior Jorju, DPS asks that you do not approach him and call 911 to report the sighting.
