A former school clerk has been sentenced to spend a year in jail and pay full restitution.
On Tuesday, State Judge Randal Lee found Christine Atisanoe, 34, guilty of second degree theft for stealing nearly $20,000 from the Waianae public charter school Ka Waihona O Ka Naauao.
Atisanoe was responsible for collecting and depositing payments from the parents for meals and activities. But a school investigation found she never deposited the money to the school’s account and instead used the payments to pay for her bills.
She must now pay the full amount back, plus serve a year of jail time and five years of probation.
“I never intended to disrespect the school,” Atisanoe said at Tuesday’s hearing. “They trusted me to do one job and life just got really hard and I needed to take care of my family.”
