Les Murakami Stadium in need of an internal makeover

Remember your grade school P.E. locker rooms? Picture those being the home for the Rainbow Warriors before they take the field at beautiful Les Murakami Stadium.

Just in the last decade, the seats, playing surface, and scoreboard have been completely renovated at “The Les”. The original locker rooms dating back to the stadium’s construction 30 years ago still remain.

Though the stadium’s exterior has been brought up to date, keeping it as one of college baseball’s prime jewels, the decaying interior poses problems with drawing coveted baseball recruits to the University of Hawai’i. Head coach Mike Trapasso was able to sign what was considered by publication Baseball America to be a top five recruiting class nationally in 2013, but lost 5 commitments who were selected in the Major League Baseball draft.

Coach “Trap” and Athletic Director Ben Jay are planning to move the ‘Bows lockers from the first base side, to a new clubhouse mauka over to the third base side of the stadium.

With the athletic department’s much publicized budget restrictions, funding for the new project will have to come through private donations.

If you would like to provide relief to the ‘Bows fundraising efforts, you can contact Jay at athdir@hawaii.edu and head coach Mike Trapasso at trapasso@hawaii.edu
