CINCINNATI (WCPO/CNN) – A grieving father took to the Internet to ask the world: Help me remember my daughter without the tubes surrounding her in the hospital.
Nathan Steffel posted the story to the social news site Reddit.
And to his surprise, his wish would come true in the most unexpected way.
Steffel’s daughter, Sophia, lived only six weeks before she died on July 10 due to complications from a liver tumor known as hepatic hemangioma.
Sophia was being cared for at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus and later taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where she would spend her last days.
“She was on the waiting list for her liver when she passed from complications involving the pressure on her abdomen due to the hemangioma,” Steffel wrote.
That’s when he took to Reddit:
“Photoshop Request: My daughter recently passed away after a long battle in the children’s hospital. Since she was in the hospital her whole life we never were able to get a photo without all her tubes. Can someone remove the tubes from this photo?”
In two days, the post has received almost 3,000 replies and dozens of edited images of Sophia, free of the medical equipment.
Steffel and his wife were brought to tears.
“This is really amazing,” Steffel wrote. “Everyone, you have made my day. All I wanted was a nice picture. What I received was a lot of love and support from a bunch of strangers.”
