The Hawaii Police Department is warning drivers to be careful after football-sized rocks damaged several vehicles in Hilo early Thursday morning.
Three of the accidents occurred on Hawaii Belt Highway (Route 19) near Alae Cemetery and one was on Haihai Street. All the accidents occurred at around 2 a.m.
Officials are still investigating how the rocks got onto the road. No one was hurt.
Drivers are advised to use caution while driving during the early morning hours, especially when experiencing limited visibility due to rain.
The public is asked to report any suspicious activity by calling the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
