One man dead, the other arrested for causing Pearl City car accident

A person involved in a single-car crash in Pearl City has died.

Twenty-two-year-old Nico Ballesteros of Waialua was originally hospitalized in critical condition after the car he was riding in hit a light pole at the intersection of Kuala St. and Acacia Road, fronting Walmart.

The accident was reported at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

A 21-year-old male driver was also hospitalized in serious condition.

HPD Lt. Bobby Towne said the driver was allegedly driving under the influence and without a license.

The driver was subsequently arrested Friday night at Queen’s Medical Center on the DUI charge, as well as on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide.
