Saint Louis graduate Masoli to get first CFL start against Calgary

Saint Louis graduate Jeremiah Masoli will make his first career Canadian Football League start at quarterback for the Hamilton Tigercats Friday night.

Masoli and his Ti-Cats will face Calgary, and he’ll take the first snap in place of the injured Zach Collaros, who’s out of the lineup with head and back injuries suffered in Hamilton’s 28-24 road loss to Edmonton on July 4th.

Masoli took over for Collaros in Edmonton and completed 5-of-15 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.

The 5-foot-10 Masoli who was once a Heisman Trophy contender at the University of Oregon, also played one season at Ole Miss, finishing his collegiate career with 5,930 yards passing, and 42 total touchdowns spanning 3 seasons.

He played in the preseason with the San Francisco 49ers in 2011 before two seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL.

In his first season with the TigerCats, Masoli impressed in 2014 exhibition play throwing for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Leilehua graduate and former University of Hawaii Quarterback Bryant Moniz is a reserve QB for the Stampeders, meaning two of the six Quarterbacks that suit up for the game will be Hawaii High School graduates.

Kickoff between the TigerCats and Stampeders is set for 4pm HST on ESPN2.
