Higher security fee added to airline ticket price

Get ready to pay a little more when you fly.

New rates for the TSA’s “September 11th Security Fee” took effect Monday.

You’ll see that fee added to the cost of your plane ticket.

It will now cost you $5.60 each way for non-stop flights and connecting flights. That’s double what it was before, when it was originally $2.50.

If your layover is longer than four hours domestically, or 12 hours internationally, you’ll have to pay that fee twice.

The fee was increased to help reduce the federal budget deficit.
