New video has come in of the crew members of the Hokulea and Hikianalia visiting Maupiti in French Polynesia. This is the first time the voyaging canoes have visited the island.
The canoes intentionally visited this community due to the passionate words of Papa Maui, an elder resident of the island.
Master navigator Kalepa Baybayan detailed how the geography of the island can make entrance into the inner lagoon a dangerous undertaking. Favorable weather and voyaging expertise, however, allowed the visit to be possible.
The canoes left Maupiti on Friday and are now headed to the Cook Islands as their next port in their worldwide voyage.
